Kamloops Brain Injury Association
I was the Summer Recreation Coordinator at Kamloops Brain Injury Association in 2024. Through my time at KBIA I made some great connections with the survivors, people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury. I spent my summer planning, preparing and organizing weekly events and activities for the survivors to participate in.
I also got to do presentations to daycares, schools, summer camps and the community to talk about what is your brain and what it does, how to protect your brain and do activities as if a certain part of your brain is damaged. I will treat everyone with respect and kindness as everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions as everyone is unique in their own way!
The Bright Red Book Bus
I was a Literacy Coach on the Bright Red Book Bus in the summer of 2023. Throughout my summer on the Book Bus I was in-charge of maintaining a stock of books to provide a variety for all reading levels. The Book Bus Provided summer reading students and the public appropriate books to help students continue reading throughout the summer to not lose their reading skills. I helped teachers and parents with testing children’s reading level using the five finger vocabulary check. My takeaways from working on the Book Bus were learning what books are current and how to help students choose books that interest them and are within their reading level.
Babysitting
I got my babysitting certificate in 2014 and have been babysitting ever since. In 2015 I babysat a grade 5 and grade 3, everyday after school while their mom went through this program. I walked them home, made them an after school snack and helped them with homework. This definitely sparked my love for kids and why teaching has become something I am very passionate about.
Babysitting over the last 10 years has taught me to maintain a clean, safe, engaging and educational environment while entertaining children while supporting their physical, social and emotional needs. This has helped me with my organizational skills and communicating with children.
