Biography

Hi! I’m Kendra,

I’m a fourth-year student at TRU. I started my Bachelor of Arts with a major in English but received early admission to the Bachelor of Education program. As I am finishing my first year, I am reminded as to why I know this is the perfect career for me!

I have been involved in Girl Guides of Canada as an active member since 2008. I am a leader of a group of Embers, 16 girls aged 7-8. Being a leader includes planning meetings, arranging for people to attend meetings, emailing parents and organizations. I love creating amazing experiences that inspire, educate, and empower people to appreciate and enjoy Kamloops.

I spend my free time babysitting kids. I maintain a clean, safe, engaging and educational environment. I entertain the children while supporting their physical, social and emotional needs. I also communicate behavioural expectations while keeping a schedule.

I work with Canucks Autism as a support worker in the swimming pool. It has taught me how to use visuals and talk to kids at their level in an over stimulating environment. Every child is different and I love getting to know each of them!

I have spent all my life advocating and educating people on invisible disabilities. Encouraging people to look beyond the surface and understand what physical and mental barriers exist for others.

In my spare time you can find me hiking and camping. I love the outdoors and how it makes me feel physically and mentally. I also love being in the kitchen making desserts or cooking dinner for my family. I am a very clean and tidy person so I am always organising and cleaning up my spaces. I love making people feel special and cared for so I do as much in my community when I can.

My main reason for choosing to become a teacher is because I want to share my passion for learning with the next generation. My favorite teacher taught me that being a teacher was not just about spelling and math facts, it is about bringing the world to life in a classroom. She opened my eyes and led me to future achievements that I may never have discovered on my own. Being around children has given me the patience and empathy to listen to and guide them in the best ways possible. My goal is not to create a room full of genius but to help create meaningful members of our society. I hope to inspire and positively impact my students the way I have been inspired and impacted by teachers in my life.
